3 tablespoons cold pressed olive oil

1 onion or 3 cloves garlic, chopped

1/2 cup water or more

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 teaspoon cardamom

A dash of cayenne

1-1/2 teaspoon curry

1 teaspoon ginger powder

1/2 teaspoon sea salt

15 oz. can lentils, do not drain

Sauté onions or garlic and oil in a 3-quart pot. Add remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil. Simmer for 30 minutes.
