1 c Sugar

1/2 c Shortening

1 Egg

1 1/2 c Unsweetened applesauce

2 ts Baking soda

2 1/4 c All purpose flour

1/2 ts Ground cloves

1 ts Cinnamon

1/2 ts Salt

1 c Raisins

1/2 c Nuts

Cream together sugar, shortening and eggs. Add applesauce in which soda has been dissolved. Sift in flour, spices and salt; add raisins and nuts. Drop several inches apart onto greased baking sheet. Bake at 300 about 15 minutes.
